#WEAREALLSAMANTHAMUMBA

It all started with Craig Brown (@CraigBrownAFC) tweeting a story explaining his short absence from Twitter. The reason for his absence, he was partying with Samantha Mumba (@samanthamumba1). Craig Brown was invited to a party, so Craig and Archie Knox went along… I’ll leave it there. Check out Craig Brown’s Twitter feed for the full uncensored version!

From those tentative tweets a genuine and resiprocal relationship has blossomed.

The guzzler of Export and teller of tall stories (Craig not Samantha) then inadvertently began a campaign to bring Samantha Mumba back into the spotlight. This is where Dolly Digital enters the story. We received a request from Craig Brown.

He tweeted “RT if u think @dollydigital should design us a #WEAREALLSAMANTHAMUMBA tshirt like he did for #papashangosaysfuckthesfa“. This was retweeted by 25 people. Even if nobody had retweeted we couldn’t refuse Craig Brown. So we created The Samantha Mumba Collection, a selection on hashtag created in similar Twitter typography and a couple of others.

The campaign was only 12 hours old and the hashtag #WEAREALLSAMANTHAMUMBA was trending on Twitter in the UK. Social media went crazy. Samantha Mumba sales on iTunes was rocketing. Radio stations were getting requests for Samantha Mumba songs. The campaign was mentioned on radio news.

It would seem #WEAREALLSAMANTHAMUMBA is taking the country by storm! Top-trending on Twitter. Social media going crazy. Mentions on the NEWS. Trans-Atlantic phone calls. Interviews aired on Northsound1 and Clyde1. On this interview, Samantha speaks enthusiastically about our designs and also her new love of Aberdeen FC.

What next? I reckon Vogue…

Samantha Mumba totally endorses our #WEAREALLSAMANTHAMUMBA designs…

ALL PROFIT FROM #WEAREALLSAMANTHAMUMBA SALES WILL GO TO CHILDRENS CHARITY SCOTLAND – http://www.chas.org.uk

Scottish Football Needs Rangers

Here at Dolly Digital we like to champion good causes. We’ve donated profit to Neil Simpson’s Testimonial Campaign and Beach End at Hampden Display.

We believe that Scottish Football needs Rangers FC.

As such we have designed this Tee (click link). We are charging more than usual and every penny of profit will split between Craig Whyte and The Rangers Fighting Fund. Craig Whyte will know what to do with your hard-earned money. The Rangers Fighting Fund is an organisation set up to help Rangers FC out of the financial predicament they unfairly find themselves in.

Dolly Digital thinks we speak for all Aberdeen FC fans when we say ‘Good luck Rangers’. They deserve better.

Ok, it’s after midday on 1st April 2012. I can now apologise for the information above.

Supporting Our Local Club

At Dolly Digital we create design solutions to businesses and individuals requiring design work. Whether this is a new logo for a new company, updating or creating a brand identity for an existing company or designing ad-hoc work to a client brief.

Another facet to Dolly Digital is creating merchandise for fans of various football clubs. These are mainly self-initiated projects but we have been commissioned to design personalised creations (more of this in a future blog). Creating designs, that are innovative and leftfield rather than the usual run of the mill fan merchandise. We have witnessed an enthusiasm that surrounds our designs. They are often shared from our Twitter and Facebook pages or used as profile pics. Working to a self-initiated brief allows us to create designs that we like instead of the restriction with a client’s requirement.

One such project (see below), our current “Beach End at Hampden” design, which was released soon after Aberdeen qualified for another semi-final at Hampden. After reading a thread on AberdeenMAD it was decided that ALL profit from the sales of this design would go to help fund a massive display at the 14th April Scottish Cup semi-final. With this message on the design, it makes perfect sense. We are obviously hopeful this may extend to the Scottish Cup Final in May.

If you wish to donate money to the fund please get in touch with, or transfer cash to redarmy12merch@hotmail.co.uk

This is not the first time we have used our designs to help raise funds for fan group. One such project entitles ‘Aberdeen Fan Group‘ was set up with the specific intention to raise funds to help add some colour and enthusiasm to Aberdeen FC games. Below is a selection of designs that can be found on our RedBubble page.

Dolly Digital has also donated 100% of profit from our ‘Simpson’ design. This was also created with a specific campaign in mind. There has always been a belief that Neil Simpson is entitled to a testimonial from Aberdeen FC. When considered that a man who has been involved with the club for over 20 years, played in over 300 games and won medals in every National competition (plus a couple of European ones) it beggars belief that this has not has not happened yet. This design continues to be available on clothing, iPhone cases, canvas prints and greetings cards.

Finally and more recently we have designed a banner, paid for by an anonymous fan. The banner cost £250 and is a massive 25ft x 6ft. The Vernon banner is due to be unveiled on 24th March versus Inverness Caledonian Thistle. We waived the fee we would usually charge to create this design. This design has been featured in the local press. We were also responsible for sourcing the manufacturers and discussing the requirements with the suppliers. The design pays homage to goal-scorer Scott Vernon. The original design is available on clothing and iPhone cases. We were asked if this design could be adapted for the purpose of a banner. We then created a new design for this purpose. Below is the original design and the banner. Our altered image is derived from an original photograph and is used with permission from Scott Baxter.

I heart HMRC

Her Majesty’s Rangers XI currently owe Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs money. A lot of money. Figures vary from source to source, but a conservative figure is £75 million. Already in administration and a potential liquidation and folding up of the club is a distinct possibility.

“Scottish football needs Rangers” is the phrase bandied about by lazy journalists. I’ll leave the stats and stories for the tried and tested web forums like theawayend.net or individual stattos on Twitter, like @SPLStats. But we will say that the last time Rangers were struggling Aberdeen and Dundee United thrived in Europe, whilst winning domestic trophies. Celtic and Hearts battled it out for silverware. Internationally Scotland were regular attendees at World Cups.

Anyway, enough historical chat. Let’s discuss the designs above.

The original idea came from a thread on AberdeenMAD. A regular contributor (TheRedPimpernel) created a similar banner to produce at Ibrox, pre-administration. The design has become a favourite with Aberdeen fans. It received much media attention with various websites reporting, including the BBC.

We thought if the design could be tidied up it would make a great t-shirt slogan, and with TheRedPimpernel’s blessing we’ve reproduced the design to a wider audience. This design is not exclusive to Aberdeen fans. This is a design for fans of every club in Scotland to show their displeasure and anger at the blatant cheating by Scotland’s most ‘successful’ club. It is our hope that fans from Inverness to Stranraer, will appreciate the sentiment and hopefully buy a couple too!  The colour combinations will allow every fan in Scotland (and England).

We will be making a free-to-download wallpaper very soon. But, if you want one before that just email us at info@dollydigital.co.uk and tell your club and colours.

If you like the design, why not get in touch through our Twitter and Facebook pages.
